Thanks for 7 Wonderful Years!

Greetings, dear readers! It’s been awhile. I’ve missed you. I’ve gathered you here to celebrate the anniversary of Dice Hate Me. Exactly seven years ago today, I posted my first game review on dicehateme.com – and since then what a long, strange trip it’s been. Over the past three years, this site has been mostly a repository and rally point for The State of Games podcast. The podcast has evolved over the past few years and I still enjoy gathering to talk and laugh about boardgames, but I miss sharing my passion for games and the hobby through written journalism. So, from this point forward, consider the old Dice Hate Me back in... Read More

The State of Games, Ep. 129: The One About Bridge Club

The first rule of Bridge Club is you don’t talk about Bridge Club. The second rule of Bridge Club is you don’t talk about Bridge Club. The third rule of Bridge Club is you absolutely talk about board games in which you can talk about anything and everything while playing, including Bridge, Diamonds, Fleet, Vegas, Uno, Cacao, Thurn & Taxis, Ticket to Ride, and a whole bunch more. The State of Games, Ep. 118: The One About the Good Ol’ Days

Ahhh, the good ol’ days. Many of us look back with great nostalgia on those events, items, shows, and such that bring us warm, fuzzy feelings and help us to combat the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune in our daily lives. The board game space is rife with nostalgia nowadays, with many designers and publishers banking on the selling power of happy memories from yesteryear. So pour yourself some Nesquick, put on your superhero jammies, and kick back as we look back on the best of the past and what it could mean for the future. Read More  Read More

The State of Games, Ep. 108 – The One About Heading to Columbus

It’s officially convention season! And it’s time to head out to one of the biggest shows of the year – Origins Game Fair in Columbus, Ohio! Other than PrezCon, this is probably my favorite show of the year. It’s big, but not so big that you don’t have time to catch up with all your favorite people and play some of your favorite games – and discover new favorites! So download and listen on your drive or flight; we’ll fill you in on all the good stuff to see and do! Read More  Read More

The State of Games, Ep. 100 – The One About the State of Games

It’s hard to believe that almost exactly five years ago we plunged headlong into the podcasting world with the debut of The State of Games. It was just Cherilyn and me back in those wild west days of yesteryear, and it really feels like it was two blinks in the past. There’s been so much change between then and now, both in the hobby, in business, and in personal life, but at least one thing has stayed the same – being able to speak my mind about my favorite things and bring board gaming love to so many more. The State of Games, Episode 69 – The One About GenCon 2014

It’s no secret – we at Dice Hate Me LOVE going to gaming conventions, and the biggest show of the year is GenCon in Indianapolis! Three of our four intrepid podcasters traveled to Indy for the big show, played lots of games, bought lots of games, and generally enjoyed our time seeing old friends and making new ones! It was an awesome show – a big show – and this podcast is equally big. Enjoy! Read More  Read More

The State of Games, Episode 66 – The One About Origins 2014

Tradition is important to the folks involved with Dice Hate Me, and one of our favorite traditions is attending Origins Game Fair in Columbus, Ohio! For the past three years, Dice Hate Me Games has had a booth at the show, and it has been an amazing experience seeing familiar faces and making new friends. Join us as we talk all about it! The State of Games, Episode 59 – The One About The Hot Games of 2014

We love reserved hyperbole (is that really a thing?) here at Dice Hate Me, so let me just say that, like all the years before, this coming year may just be the Greatest Year For Games Ever. With big titles sporting unique mechanics like Dead of Winter and SeaFall coming from Plaid Hat Games, a whole slew of indie upstarts shaking the establishment, and no fewer than 10 Dice Hate Me Games titles hitting the market, you can see that my hyperbole is warranted. The State of Games, Episode 55 – The One About BGGCon 2013

We love gaming conventions, and thankfully con season wasn’t over quite yet as thousands of geeks gathered in the Big D for BGGCon 2013. Origins and GenCon are great, but you’ll never find a more concentrated collection of hardcore board game enthusiasts than here – and we attended! And now we’re going to tell you all about what you missed. You’re welcome. Read More  Read More

The Dice Hate Me GenCon 2013 Pictorial Wrap-Up

Hello dear readers! The summer’s biggest North American show just wrapped up in Indianapolis and it was, in many ways, better than the previous year. Many pundits were grumbling about the lack of “showcase” releases at the show, but I ended up nabbing three times as many games this year as last, and have – so far – been disappointed with none. Of course, there were a slew of titles only available for demo at the con – their releases are slated for that even bigger show in Essen, Germany – but even those demos made the price of admission worth every penny. Without further ado, here are a few pics of the... Read More
