The State of Games, Ep. 165 – The One About Grinding Some Gears
Every so often on the podcast we dig a bit deeper and get a bit more serious with our topics. This time around what was going to be a simple rant session evolved into a deep discussion about depression, anxiety, mental health nuances, and online bullying. Don’t worry, we still talk about board games and the hobby, but we didn’t want to pull any punches when it comes to issues that affect not only those of us on the podcast, but our family and friends in the industry and beyond. Settle in and get serious, but don’t worry – as always, we laugh through the tears. You will, too.

Top episode. I thought that you tackled the gear grinding subjects in a thought provoking and interesting way. I confess I have a tendency to eye roll when board game podcasts tackle subjects that aren’t related to board games (OMG there’s one podcast which is forever going on about the smoking of meat and the relative merits of barbecue restaurants in America); but you did a great job in putting me in my place and grabbing my attention. 24 hrs later I am still thinking about the issues you raised. Keep up the good work.
Philip,
Thanks so much for listening, and for the kind words. It’s great to hear that the episode was received well. We’re reticent to bring up some topics on the show, but we thought it was important. We’ll be sure to return to regularly-scheduled board game coverage on the next podcast!
Cheers,
Chris
