From time to time it’s good for us to reflect on those games that are a cornerstone of our hobby or our personal collections. Dice Hate Me Game of the Year Awards 2016
Happy New Year, dear readers! Welcome to 2017, and it’s hard to believe it’s already here! It was a crazy year for the boardgame industry, as well as for Dice Hate Me Games/Greater Than Games. We finally saw the delivery of New Bedford after a lot of hard work, and were blessed with the funding of a very personal project in Fate of the Elder Gods. Count in Lazer Ryderz, the second round of Meta Rabbit games, and development on exciting projects like Legends of Sleepy Hollow, and we’ve been incredibly lucky. Of course, before we look forward to everything in store for 2017, it’s time on Dice Hate Me to look back at some of the best and... Read More
The State of Games, Ep. 121: The One About the Best Games of 2016
It’s the second most wonderful time of the year – that time when we look back on the best and brightest games of the previous year! This year it’s really pretty cool, as there is very little overlap in the games that Darrell, TC, Jessica, and myself have picked for our Games and Discoveries of the years, which means much more quality goodness and variety for all of you, dear listeners! As much as 2016 was a mixed bag of quality in the industry, it still turned out to be a tough task for all of us to narrow down what we like the best. Listen up, and please let us know what were your favorites of 2016! Read More Read More

Ahhh, the good ol’ days. Many of us look back with great nostalgia on those events, items, shows, and such that bring us warm, fuzzy feelings and help us to combat the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune in our daily lives. The board game space is rife with nostalgia nowadays, with many designers and publishers banking on the selling power of happy memories from yesteryear. So pour yourself some Nesquick, put on your superhero jammies, and kick back as we look back on the best of the past and what it could mean for the future. Read More Read More
The State of Games, Ep. 116: The One About Exceptions that Make the Rule
If we’ve learned one thing over the years, it’s that not all games are for all people. We all have individual tastes in types of games that we like, and often times will steer clear of other games of those same types down the road. This podcast is all about those little gems that have surprised us over the years, made us rethink why we never liked these types of games in the first place, and that we’re eager to share now with all of you dear listeners. The State of Games, Ep. 115: The One About The Hotness
If there’s one thing most of us gamers get all excited about, it’s the new shiny in cardboard. Board games are growing in leaps and bounds, and each month sees an exponential increase in board game releases. Some titles somehow tap into the zeitgeist and hurtle skyward with tons of hype, while other, equally-worthy, titles inexplicably tumble down into obscurity. We’re here to talk about this very thing, and how BGG’s The Hotness can make or break a game, and, sometimes, even a company. Read More Read More
The State of Games, Ep. 114: The One About Board Games As Art
There are certain times in the history of the podcast where we just feel compelled to dive headlong into the deep recesses of our hobby to discuss somewhat esoteric things. This time around, it’s all about art – specifically, if board games (or any consumer-based media, for that matter) could be considered art. Through our journey, we define what art means to us, which games we think might fit the bill, and even which games helped to define our generation, art pieces or not. Read More Read More
The State of Games, Ep. 112 – The One About Gen Con 2016
The summer is drawing to a close and, with it, so is the season for big conventions. None are bigger each year than Gen Con, and this year was the biggest yet, scattering all four of us from the podcast to the four winds only to see each other sporadically. But, with the distance comes opportunity, as we all get to share very different experiences for all of you to enjoy, dear listeners. Read More Read More
