The State of Games, Episode 39 – The One About Auld Lang Syne
There is a time and a season for all things – unfortunately, it’s the time on The State of Games for a season of change. This episode marks the first time in 38 episodes where Monkey238 was not seated faithfully in her co-host’s chair. As I announce on the podcast, she is moving onto ballet priorities and time is wickedly short for her. Although the show must go on, we raise our cups and sing a bit of the old refrain: “We two have run about the slopes, and picked the daisies fine; But we’ve wandered many a weary foot, since auld lang syne.”

Hey guys.
That was a fun podcast. I enjoyed learning a little bit more about Darrell and TC. All the talk about VivaJava makes me want to play it now.
I’m sad that Monkey will be missing from the show! Let her know that she is missed. But I will volunteer as a guest when you need one.
On to the meat of the podcast. Fleet. Wow, would not have picked that one. But I will say the two and a half times I did play were rocky in the teaching. So maybe if I play it with some veterans it will be better. I like the idea of using the Star Wars sound effects while playing X-Wing. Cool idea. All the talk of Macao makes me really want to play it. That is such a great game. I’m glad you mentioned the DC game Chris. I don’t like deck builders either but I liked this one. It was straight-forward and easy to pick up. It made sense and I didn’t feel like I needed to have been playing Magic for 5 years just to be somewhat competitive. I AM a DC fan so that helped. I’ll agree to some extent with TC about YOU! are the Maniac!. I was asked to playtest it but passed because the theme of the players being the slaughterers didn’t sit well with me.
Vegas! I totally agree with you on this one. It is a really fun, well designed game. I can’t wait until it is available here. Viticulture – I played a playtest of it and it was fun. I’m looking forward to it. Anomia – awesome game. Need to get that one. It’s a lot of fun.
Well that’s it for now.
