The State of Games, Ep. 179: The One About a Return to Camp Launius

Way back before the pandemic, we used to go to a lot of board game conventions. A LOT. And one of our favorite parts of board game conventions was running into and playing games with Richard Launius. You may know him as the designer of the original Arkham Horror, Elder Sign, Defenders of the Realm, and many other titles that often involve a lot of dice chucking. Well, a few years back we decided to circumvent the convention thing and just have our own little mini convention down in South Carolina at Richard’s compound. This episode is yet another installment in the continuing tales of tons of gaming at Camp Launius. Hope you dear listeners... Read More

Haathi (hah-thee — the Hindi word for elephant) is described as a family board game for 3 to 6 players that features a fantastical race through villages, jungles and mountains of storybook India, atop – you guessed it – elephants. Head of Clever Mojo Games, W. David MacKenzie, has stated that playtesting and refinement of the game with Faidutti and his team will begin soon, and they will also be interviewing quality artists... Read More

First-Place Finish: A PitchCar Mini Review

I play my games a quarter mile at a time; and for those ten seconds or less, I’m free. Friday, June 24, Origins 2011: A funny thing happened on the way to the Boardroom. Right outside that gracious hall was a jaunty group of spirited gamers huddled around a long table. They would occasionally hunch over said table, give a little round disc a hearty flick and let out a mighty yawp that I could only assume signified satisfaction. Now, God saw fit to bless me with many talents, but agility... Read More
