Swinging Jivecat Voodoo Artist!

Last month on Dice Hate Me, I shared a sneak peek at one of the newest games being playtested in the Clever Mojo Games stable – Swinging Jivecat Voodoo Lounge, by designer Seth Roback. Since then, I’ve gotten a closer look at a new board layout and a revised rulebook that actually made me understand the mad machinations behind this offbeat and intriguing game. David MacKenzie will have the prototype in tow atΒ Origins, so I’ll be sitting down for a few sessions, and taking copious notes and pictures, so look for that during my periodic updates during the convention.

The most exciting news, however, is that Clever Mojo Games has now officially signed an artist for Swinging Jivecat Voodoo LoungeSergi Marcet, the awesome artist behind the good looks of Dungeon Run, Vera Discordia and Target Earth. Just from the spec art Sergi provided (shown below), it’s pretty clear that SJVL is going to be one happening board game.

Look for more info. on Swinging Jivecat Voodoo Lounge on Dice Hate Me this fall as it nears the end of development and Sergi gets cranking on the official art.

Wow, this game had me at tiki bar, then voodoo spirits were added, and finally this art dolloped warmly over the top!
It is as if my brain has been raided of all its secret wants and desires and then they have been improved and are being transformed into a game!
    Thrilled by this concept.
And now I just have to be patient… the ONLY downside. πŸ˜€

Scott – Trust me, you’re not the only one thrilled by this concept, or that has to be patient. At least I get to try it all out at Origins! Glad you’re stoked about it, too. πŸ™‚

Man, we all have to wait! I want to get this game out to you guys so badly but it takes so much time to get it play tested, get the art, raise the funds, shipping, blah blah blah – so who knows – hopefully by beginning of next year. I am trying to do exactly what you are saying there Scott – tap into your secret wishes and desires and put it into a game because artists like Shag (Josh Agle) and the music they play at Luxuriamusic.com such as Henry Mancini, Ennio Marcione – all of the crazy Googie architecture, the exotica of Tiki and Voodoo, just fires my imagination. It has been rolling around in my head for years in my dreams, in my secret fantasies. Look at the movie Bullet, with Steve McQueen – that scene where he is eating dinner with Jacqueline Bisset there in that hipster Cafe with the Jazz in the background – that moment was like a Bam! moment in cinema. Everyone wanted to be as swanky as Steve McQueen right there. Hopefully this game will fulfill that secret desire in a lot of us – releasing the Steve McQueen or Jacqueline Bisset in all of us. That’s the goal at least.

The art looks very Shag, which is not a bad thing at all!
