The State of Games, Ep. 89 – The One About So Here’s The Thing

We weren’t even supposed to be here today. We all blame TC; he just wanted to quickly talk about a few random things on his mind. As is our custom, though, a few quick, random things turned into an hour and a half of weird awesomeness and lots of rants. So settle in, pop some popcorn, get ready to tell the kids to put their earmuffs on, and enjoy! Read More  Read More

The State of Games, Episode 70 – The One About To Be Named Later

Sometimes on the podcast we talk about so many different things that it’s nearly impossible to describe it all with one simple title. This is one of those times. This one was almost called The One About More Naked People and Naked Games but we figured no on would know what we were talking about. No matter the name, though, we have a great time discussing prototypes and strippers. This podcast is a bit like a box of chocolates on most days. Enjoy! Read More  Read More

As is the custom here on Dice Hate Me, I make sure to take lots of photos to share with all of you, dear readers, so that if you didn’t get a chance to go to the big show you’ll at least get a taste of what you missed – and can make plans to head there next year! Enjoy! The theme of this year’s GenCon could have been “The Show of the Selfie” – and we took tons. On Wednesday afternoon, Dan Patriss and I hung out with Stephen Buonocore of Stronghold Games and Mike Fitzgerald, designer of Diamonds.... Read More

From Apocalypse to a New Dawn: An Interview with Ignacy Trzewiczek

From time to time here on Dice Hate Me, I see or play a game that has a story that intrigues me. This time around it’s Portal Games’ upcoming release Imperial Settlers, designed by Ignacy Trzewiczek. Imperial Settlers is an empire game that reimplements ideas and concepts first introduced in another of Ignacy’s titles, 51st State. I loved the game so much when I played that I just had to get to the bottom of things. Luckily, Ignacy was all too happy to answer a few questions. DHM: Very briefly, in your own words, what is Imperial Settlers all about? Ignacy: It’s about building your very own little Empire. Each card in... Read More

The Dice Hate Me GenCon 2013 Pictorial Wrap-Up

Hello dear readers! The summer’s biggest North American show just wrapped up in Indianapolis and it was, in many ways, better than the previous year. Many pundits were grumbling about the lack of “showcase” releases at the show, but I ended up nabbing three times as many games this year as last, and have – so far – been disappointed with none. Of course, there were a slew of titles only available for demo at the con – their releases are slated for that even bigger show in Essen, Germany – but even those demos made the price of admission worth every penny. Without further ado, here are a few pics of the... Read More

GenCon 2012 – A Pictorial Recap

Hello, dear readers! The biggest gaming show in North America just wound down and I have returned a bit ragged but still raving about the experience. GenCon 2012 was a massive celebration of geekdom and gaming, and the sheer spectacle of it all never disappointed. The best part about GenCon for me was the chance to meet up with a lot of old friends and make some new ones meeting fans, supporters and colleagues over the four eventful days. There’s never enough time to do and see everything on your list at these things, but I left feeling satisfied that I had done and seen more than enough to fill me with great memories for years to come. And... Read More
