The State of Games, Ep. 123: The One About A Table For One

Ah, Valentine’s Day is here and love is in the air! Not only do we love all the boundless cardboard bits in our favorite board games, but we also love sharing them with our significant others! And, as per usual with any podcast around this time, we should just follow suit and share our favorite games for two. Right? WRONG. We’re here to talk about how to enjoy all those delightful games with yourself! You don’t need anyone else to relish in board gaming! Not that there’s anything wrong with that… Read More  Read More

The State of Games, Ep. 112 – The One About Gen Con 2016

The summer is drawing to a close and, with it, so is the season for big conventions. None are bigger each year than Gen Con, and this year was the biggest yet, scattering all four of us from the podcast to the four winds only to see each other sporadically. But, with the distance comes opportunity, as we all get to share very different experiences for all of you to enjoy, dear listeners. Read More  Read More

The State of Games, Ep. 92 – The One About Taking Care of Business

We typically do a good job of podcasting via Skype, but the best results come from when we are all in person. Thankfully we had the opportunity while taking care of business in St. Louis this past weekend. If I had my druthers, we’d record in person all the time, but that could only happen if we managed to organize that board game compound we’ve talked about for the longest time. One day, maybe – but, for now, we’ll settle for the joy of looking each other in the eye while we record for special occasions, even if they are few and far between. We hope you all enjoy one of those special times like this. Read More  Read More

The State of Games, Ep. 90 – The One About GenCon 2015

Let me tell you, organizing a podcast with four incredibly busy hosts that live in four different states is often crazy difficult; throw in some sickness a week after a major convention and you’ve got mission near-impossible. Still, with so much to talk about from the massive GenCon 2015, the show must go on. Read More  Read More

The State of Games, Ep. 86: The One About Origins 2015

For the past four years, I’ve had the pleasure of hosting a booth for Dice Hate Me Games at the Origins Game Fair in Columbus, Ohio. During that time I’ve learned a lot, met many wonderful people, and introduced even more to the joys and wonders of DHMG titles. It’s a wonderful convention in which I can both run a booth and still have time to talk to convention-goers, fans, designers and publishers. 2015 was a great year at Origins, and I hope to be able to do the same for many years to come! The State of Games, Ep. 81: The One About Unpopular Mechanics

Some State of Games podcasts are influenced by the whimsy of the industry and some are just filled with our own internal discussions. This one has it all. From TC’s struggle with overused mechanics in games to what might cause a company to declare bankruptcy, we cover the gamut. It’s a big community out there, after all, and we care about it. Come listen to us ramble and rant about every little corner – and stick around for our love for all of it. Read More  Read More

The State of Games, Ep. 80: The One About Some Business & Baseball

To everything, turn, turn turn, there is a season, turn, turn, turn… and a time for every podcast to make alterations. This podcast is all about those changes that can occur over the life of an entity, whether it be personal, business, social, or all three. Join us this time as we talk about a huge turning point for Dice Hate Me Games, even though it won’t really affect what we do on The State of Games. Rest assured, no matter what changes might occur on the business front, we’ll always be your source for a rambling good time in the world of board games. I’m pretty sure Stephanie will make sure of that. Read More  Read More

The State of Games, Episode 70 – The One About To Be Named Later

Sometimes on the podcast we talk about so many different things that it’s nearly impossible to describe it all with one simple title. This is one of those times. This one was almost called The One About More Naked People and Naked Games but we figured no on would know what we were talking about. No matter the name, though, we have a great time discussing prototypes and strippers. This podcast is a bit like a box of chocolates on most days. Enjoy! Read More  Read More
