Clever Mojo Games Signs Bruno Faidutti

Clever Mojo Games has announced that recent talks with beloved game designer Bruno Faidutti has resulted in an agreement to publish Haathi, which Faidutti has developed with Sérgio Halaban, and André Zatz. Haathi (hah-thee — the Hindi word for elephant) is described as a family board game for 3 to 6 players that features a fantastical race through villages, jungles and mountains of storybook India, atop – you guessed it – elephants. Head of Clever Mojo Games, W. David MacKenzie, has stated that playtesting and refinement of the game with Faidutti and his team will begin soon, and they will also be interviewing quality artists... Read More

The State of Games, Episode 15 – The One About Richard Launius

This time, it’s all about the dice. It can be argued that it’s always about the dice around these parts, but this time we mean it. You see, we have a very special guest on the podcast this week – a certain designer whose happy hallmarks are those rambunctious randomizers.  And although dice may be filled with hate whenever they get in these hands, we’ve got nothing but love for this particular designer – even if he does have cube fever. Step right up. Enjoy your ride.

It’s that time. You’ve heard the rumblings over the past couple of months… you’ve (hopefully) seen bits and pieces of the art… and you’ve (even more hopefully) heard the buzz. Our first game release, Carnival, is now on Kickstarter and ready for your perusal! For those not in the know, Carnival is a game of set collection for 2-4 players that utilizes dice rolls to determine actions. During the game, players may use Tickets to influence dice rolls or cancel other players’ actions. Wild cards can act as card substitutes or be discarded to draw more cards from the deck. It’s just like bumper cars in... Read More

Epic Update for Princes of the Dragon Throne

It’s been a few months since dragons have graced the pages at Dice Hate Me, but that doesn’t mean that they have been dormant. I’ve recently received a slew of new art for Clever Mojo Games‘ Princes of the Dragon Throne, and been privy to some designer notes that clear up the new direction for the game. But first – pretty stuff! Read More  Read More

WBC Bound!

It’s convention time once again at Dice Hate Me HQ, so time for some road trip preliminaries. I know that a vast majority of you are either not reading this at GenCon, or not reading this because you’re reading someone else’s blog about being at GenCon, but for the other 3% of you out there – welcome to the WBC party! As many of you already know, we have opted out of the big show in Indy this year, and are instead headed to the land of milk and honey – Lancaster, PA, home of delicious pretzels and shoo-fly pie. Lancaster is the home of the World Boardgaming Championships, and we figured that the closer drive, cheaper... Read More

A Sweet Science: An Interview with JAB Designer Gavan Brown

For generations, “the sweet science” has always referred to the manly art of fisticuffs; you know, boxing. When I was but a wee lad, I heard the term and immediately imagined a man in a big, white lab coat mixing up ice cream flavors in the lab – such are the machinations of the five-year-old mind. Regardless, for many years of my youth, whenever I would draw I would draw ice cream. Lots and lots of ice cream. Looking back now on all those drawings of ice cream cones, I guess I truly associated art with my personal “sweet science.” All of this is to say that I now have the perfect storm of interpersonal connections*... Read More

The State of Games, Episode 11 – The One About the Last Game On Earth

The State of Games, Episode 11 is fully stocked with bottled water, shotgun shells and plenty of spam and beans. There’s no apocalypse that we can’t handle as long as we can also bring along dice, cards, several hundred board games… wait, there’s not room for all of that? What’s a couple of well-prepared gamers to do? Read More  Read More

The State of Games, Episode 10 – The One About Origins

The State of Games, Episode 10 is geared up and ready for gaming – convention style! I’ll bet all you board gamers and grognards know what we’re talking about with the title of this one, and it ain’t about Darwin (although he was a clue in a game of Time’s Up this past week). So grab your dice bag and jump on board, because it’s convention time! Read More  Read More

Origins Game Fair 2011: Day 4

I’m sad to say that there was no great Banana Quest on Day 4 of Origins (in fact, we didn’t even eat until 4 p.m.), but there was plenty of good, old-fashioned boardgaming and spending quality time with some new friends. The day started late after some unexpected, but very nice sleep time, but we made the best of our last full day. And now, the day in pictures. Observing a demo of Engage, by Table Tactics. It was a fascinating diceless system that I'd like to take a closer look at soon. Marc Specter thought the prototype of Sunrise City could use more Godzilla attacks. After a long late lunch at Barley's (surprise), we hung... Read More
